TIP # 1 TROUBLESHOOTING YOUR WAY OUT OF IMMINENT TROUBLE


  1. Problem Identification – Determine what the problem and trace it to its roots
  2. Visual Inspection – Observe and study the engine, particularly the part where the problem originated
  3. Operate the engine – Start the engine and observe how it runs or functions
  4. Check Manual – Consult the engine manual for the its trouble-shooting tips and understand the advice properly
  5. Use the Right Diagnostic Tools – Make sure to use the right tools in determining the problem; it isn't enough to rely on the initial visual inspection nor is it effective to depend on one's gut feel in diagnosing engine problems.
  6. Inspect Worn Parts – Be sure to check the affected the part for signs of wear and tear
  7. Finding Primary Cause – Look for the first cause of the problem
  8. Make the Necessary Repair – Always conduct repairs that fix the problem permanently with long-term performance in mind; avoid quick-fixes if possible.
  9. Check the Work Done – After fixing, check repair work. Is it correct and sufficient? Did it solve the problem.
  10. Do Preventive Maintenance – Always follow the preventive maintenance (PM) schedule on the manual to avoid future problems.
